Endorsements

As seen on the main page, I am a proud endorsing artist of a number of companies, and featured on some other ones as well. I have mentioned my reasons for being endorsed on this site before, but I’ll state it again because it bears mentioning.

My Take on Endorsements

Endorsements are on one hand a business agreement, but more importantly are a relationship with the company. In the case of Warwick, I had played their instruments since 1997 and becoming an endorsing artist was more about being included in the family of artists that use the “sound of wood” to create their signature sound over getting anything back from them. Simply put, I would still be playing Warwicks right now if I didn’t get an endorsement from them, and am still extremely humbled that I did. And really, if you are going to approach a company about getting an endorsement and creating that relationship, you need to be in that mentality.

Gear that I Endorse

So, with the above in mind, here are the companies whose products I endorse. These are things that you will see me use on the stage (or, under it) on a regular basis to get my sound and get the job done. Above that, these companies have Artist Reps, Owners and Builders that I have built a rapport with and am always happy to open a dialogue with (and even happier that they return the favor).

And if you happen to catch me performing and like the gear I’m using, feel free to ask me about it. Seriously, go ahead. My friends all know I’m a gearhead and would rather I speak to someone else passionate about the signal chain than tell them about it, throwing out a lot of technical terms that they just smile at.

Black Cat Pedals – Some extremely clever new reproductions of old pedals.
GHS Strings – Everyone knows the Boomers, but the Progressives and Super Steel Contact Cores are the strings I count on.
Gruv Gear – Designed with the end user in mind, the V-Cart and Stadium Bag have made loading in and out quick and easy.
Levy’s Leathers – Best. Gigbags. Period. They also make some killer straps.
NS Design – Steinberger continues to innovate the music industry, and my CR-5M Bass is no exception.
Peterson Tuners – Easy to use and insanely accurate.
Phil Jones Bass Amplifiers – Beautifully designed, sonically brilliant amplifiers that have a lot of power and control in a very small, soundman-friendly package.
Road Rage Pro Gear – Dependable and solid A/B pedals and channel loopers. Sweet enclosures too.
Visual Sound – The Visual Volume pedal is THE one pedal you can rely on me having in a pit.
Warwick Basses – The basses still feel like “home” after almost fifteen years gigging with them.
Westone Music Products – The earplugs that have saved my hearing countless times.
Black Cat Pedals

Black Cat Pedals

When I was jumping into the world of effects, I stumbled upon Black Cat Pedals purely by chance. I really liked their clever updates and reproductions of some of the old seminal stomp boxes, but at the time didn’t have any need for a fuzz or overdrive pedal. When they came out with the Mini …

GHS Strings

It’s funny that I met the Artist Rep from GHS Strings because of Warwick, but it’s true. I originally contacted the gents at Warwick because I was looking for a new double gigbag and thought the Rockbass line would work. I was informed that GHS handles the US distribution of the Rockbass line, and was …

Gruv Gear

The only way to say how excited I am about Gruv Gear’s products is probably to equate it to the fanaticism that Apple users have for their products (I should point out that I’m typing on a Macbook currently). The V-Cart Solo and Stadium Bag have made staying organized and loading in and out of …

Levy’s Leathers

I have known of the value of having durable, leather guitar straps for years. I had an old Levy’s leather strap many moons ago before the endorsement, so I knew the name. When I finally made the decision to spend the money and buy a durable gigbag, I ultimately chose Levy’s. My gigbags are extremely …

NS Design

NS Design

I have been intrigued by the “Electric Upright Bass” (EUB) for many years prior to ever hearing about NS Design. I played a Clevinger, Zeta, Kydd and a couple of others and really liked the portability of the EUB over my string bass. So, in early 2011 when I made the decision to finally sell …

Phil Jones Bass

Phil Jones Bass

I love these amps. Above all else, bringing in a Briefcase to a new venue and watch the soundman change from skeptical to fanatic is the best. But tonewise, these amps are brilliant. Very hi-fi sounding and true to the instrument being used, the Phil Jones Bass amps are an excellent choice when clarity is …

Road Rage Pro Gear

Jeff makes some really practical stuff. When I first jumped into the effect pedal world, I looked high and low to find a great channel looping pedal and stumbled upon Road Rage Pro Gear. Aside from the many options, he also offers the ability to buy kits to build them yourself; the gearhead in me …

Visual Sound

When I first flirted with the idea of getting into pedals (but went the way of the Line6 BassPod XT Live! which only delayed the inevitable), I ran into the local Guitar Center to try some stuff out. The one pedal that stuck with me out of all of the ones I tried was the …

Warwick Basses

Warwick Basses

I fell in love with Warwick Basses waaaaay back in the early/mid 90s, listening to Melvin Gibbs of Rollins Band and Stefan Lessard of the Dave Matthews Band. Both guys had this great woody tone that was phenomenal. Being able to play a Corvette at a jazz camp in 1996 also helped to solidify my …
