GHS Strings

It’s funny that I met the Artist Rep from GHS Strings because of Warwick, but it’s true. I originally contacted the gents at Warwick because I was looking for a new double gigbag and thought the Rockbass line would work. I was informed that GHS handles the US distribution of the Rockbass line, and was given the AR info. Made contact, and wound up hanging out at a local bar for an hour or so, shooting the breeze about music and things. I left with the bag and the offer to let him know if I ever needed some new strings.

So I did my homework, since my only knowledge of what GHS made for bassists was limited to Boomers. There were a LOT of options available, and after talking back and forth, I settled on a custom shop set of the Contact Core Super Steel strings. They are impressive! The note clarity is there, while still retaining that round low end. The B string is probably the best one I have used in a long time. When you play it, the bass rumbles with it! Those are currently strung on my fretless, as I’m trying out another set of strings on my fretted ones, the Progressives. They have a more traditional sound, but are still very bright and clear. It bears to mention that both sets really last quite a while; normally during a theatre run, I’ll kill a set of strings before the run is over. With the GHS strings, I can last at least two runs, saving me a lot of time changing and breaking in new strings.
