NS Design

I have been intrigued by the “Electric Upright Bass” (EUB) for many years prior to ever hearing about NS Design. I played a Clevinger, Zeta, Kydd and a couple of others and really liked the portability of the EUB over my string bass. So, in early 2011 when I made the decision to finally sell my string bass and move over to the EUB realm, I did a lot of research and ultimately settled on the CR-5M from NS Design.

There are a lot of options that the NS EUBs have over many of the other manufacturers that made a lot of sense to my gigging situation. Being able to use a tripod stand or an endpin is very handy, and I use both in different situations (tripod in a theatre pit, endpin onstage). While I didn’t think I’d use them at first, the magnetic pickups combined with the piezos really let me dial in a sound that I think is better than my old string bass. The traditional string bass scale length (with the ability to use either NS strings or standard string bass strings) and radiused fingerboard make transitioning over to the EUB world very easy with no compromises to technique or options.
